Step aside Pokémon Go, there’s a new kid in town

Do you know your puffballs from your earthstars? Your turkey tails from your gold-flecked woodwax? Find out during UK Fungus Day.

Celebrate UK Fungus Day on 8 October by joining a fungi foray at Leigh Woods, near Bristol. Experts will help you identify some of the fascinating species to be found here, including puffballs, earthstars, turkey tails and King Alfred’s cakes. You might even spot the rare and exotic sounding gold-flecked woodwax.

Other events to mark the magic of all things mycological (i.e. mushrooms and toadstools) will be held across the country at science centres, universities, museums, botanic gardens and nature reserves – with many easily accessible from the GWR network – so visit ukfungusday.co.uk to find some fungi-based fun near you.
