London Comic Con

It’s time to dust off your favourite superhero costume and ready yourself for Britain’s biggest pop culture convention, which returns to ExCel London this weekend.

Superheroes are more popular than ever, bolstering multi-million-dollar film franchises with their massive deltoids. They have well and truly entered the mainstream.

That’s not to say that the more radical end of the comic fandom spectrum has in any way diminished. There still remains a substantial (and surely growing) contingent of superhero enthusiasts willing to go the extra mile to celebrate their favourite masked vigilante, adorning impressive costumes and gathering in huge numbers at hanger-like exhibition centres on the edges of town.

MCM Comic Con London (25–27 May) is just such an event. This year, it will host a number of appearances by major stars from the pop culture scene, including Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), David Harewood (J’onn J’onzz), Felicia Day (CYD Sherman/Codex) and more.

Even if you don’t count yourself a hardcore fan, and you’re more likely to be seen in public wearing a bath robe than adorning a Lycra onesie, comic conventions are still amazing fun and makes for some excellent people watching.
