Five fun family activities for the Easter holidays

Easter is but a hop, skip and a jump away, which can only mean one thing… holidays! (And chocolate, of course). It’s not an easy feat keeping the family entertained while school is out, so here are some great things for grown-ups and little ones alike.

To avoid all the half-term road traffic madness, travel by train and take the hassle out of your journey.

Bath

Easter Family Fun Trail, American Museum and Gardens
Celebrate American Mardi Gras at the American Museum and Gardens in Bath, complete with and Easter family fun trail. Taking place over the first three weekends in April, including some weekday dates too, families are invited to grab a basket and find the hidden egg clues to win an Easter prize. This day out is suitable for ages 5+ and costs £2.50 in addition to the normal admission fee.

Bristol

Easter Trail, Whapping Wharf
Egg-citing things are happening in Bristol this Easter. Between 8–24 April, families are invited to take part in a free Easter trail. Head to The Bristol Cheesemonger to collect an activity sheet, and hunt for eggs in the windows of Wapping Wharf‘s eclectic shops and businesses. Pay close attention to the letters written on the eggs to crack the code and win an Easter themed prize. The hunt will take place throughout the Easter school holidays, when the Easter Trail will run during the hours of 11am–6pm each day, excluding Easter Sunday.

Portsmouth

Easter Fun, Emirates Spinnaker Tower
Enjoy incredible views across the coast from the Emirates Spinnaker Tower, which has a glass floor so you can see the breathtaking 100-metre drop below! This Easter (6–22 April), there will be a special trail, allowing little ones to explore the building while searching for egg-shaped puzzle pieces in order to complete the task.

London

Hackney City Farm
See an abundance of farmyard animals, including pigs, donkeys, goats, chickens, sheep and more at the Hackney City Farm this Easter. Kids and grown-ups will love exploring this urban farm in the heart of the big smoke. With community spirit at its core, and a care for growing plants and food too, families can learn skills to live a healthier, happier life.
Take a GWR train to Paddington station and then an onward journey bus.

Cardiff

Easter Trail, Cardiff Castle
Rally the troops and head to Cardiff Castle to take part in a fun, family Easter trail from 13–28 April. Search for the clues dotted around the castle grounds in order to win a family ticket for Joust! at Cardiff Castle in June. The trail costs £1 on top of the normal admission fee.
