Three top ways to keep fit this Christmas

Don’t let yourself get sluggish this festive season – try one of these brilliant ways to stay active when everyone else is eating pies.

Parkrun

Parkrun organises weekly, free running events around the world. Open to everyone (from newbies to Olympians), and easy to take part, the runs are 5k in length and timed. As well as these regular events, Parkrun also holds Christmas Day and New Year’s Day runs. Find out if there’s an event taking place near you and register on Parkrun’s website. It’s the perfect way to blow off those festive period cobwebs.

Start Fitness Serpentine New Year’s Day 10k

The Serpentine Running Club is hosting a 10k race and 3k fun run on New Year’s Day. Both events take place on traffic-free paths in the beautiful Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. It costs £20 to enter (£18 if you are already affiliated with the group). But make sure you’re quick, as entries close on 25 December. What better way could there be to set a new standard of personal fitness than a good old run on the very first day of the year?

Rapha Festive 500

This one’s perhaps for the more committed fitness fans among us. Sportswear company Rapha are encouraging cyclists to take part in their annual challenge: to cycle 500k in the eight days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Yes, you heard it, 500k. To help you on the way, Rapha is organising some UK events to keep enthusiasts on track. To find out more, check out their website.
