Inside scoop: five super cool ice cream parlours just a train ride away

Roll up, roll up, the sun is shining, and these delicious ice cream parlours are serving some of the finest frozen desserts across the network, and they’re all easily reached by train! From sprinkle-tastic popsicles to gourmet gelato, here’s where to go when you’re in the mood for a exceptional ice cream cone.

Mr B’s Ice Cream

Hayle, Cornwall
Mr B’s offers an eye-popping artisan ice cream experience for those looking to indulge in scoop after scoop of quirky combos and timeless flavours. With two parlours in the lovely town of Hayle near St Ives Bay, Mr B’s has garnered quite the rep for serving famously fresh ice cream made from locally sourced Cornish produce and fine Italian ingredients. As well as mint choc chip and vanilla classics, you’ll discover an ever-changing menu of new flavours and concoctions created by the team including blackcurrant and liquorice, cinnamon and pear, salted caramel and salted peanut butter ripple, and plenty more.

Boho Gelato

Brighton, Weymouth and Worthing
With vegan and gluten free offerings, as well as traditional top-quality artisan gelato to boot, Boho Gelato has something for everyone. Their menu changes frequently (the brains behind Boho like to keep their customer’s taste buds tingling in anticipation…) but recent mouth-watering combos have included bubble-gum cookie dough, carrot cake, and even avocado and marmite – blimey! There are four parlours in three locations: two in Brighton, one in Worthing and another in Weymouth; all of which can be reached by train on the GWR network.

Science Cream

Ice cream just hit a whole new level at this cool liquid nitrogen ice cream parlour in Cardiff – the only one of its kind in the whole of Wales! Science Cream attracts big crowds as customers get to watch their ice cream orders being made in front of their eyes using liquid nitrogen. The result? Super smooth scoops of the good stuff that tastes extra fresh and silky. Summer flavours include cherry bakewell, granny smith apple pie, and pear and rhubarb.

Bath and Bristol
Churned on site, the gelato scoops at Swoon taste like little spoonfuls of heaven. So creamy and packed with flavour, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the produce of some super-duper parlour in Rome – that’s how good this place is. For Britain’s answer to proper Italian gelato, pay Swoon a visit – pronto – and try one of their seasonal guest flavours. Previous combos have included banana, blueberry, coconut and dark chocolate.

In typical London fashion, you can now order a takeaway gelato to be delivered to your front door thanks to Gelupo. Since opening shop in 2010, Gelupo has become one of Soho’s coolest ice cream hangouts. With flavours as tempting as blood orange, raspberry Eton mess, and ricotta and sour cherry, it’s no wonder that customers are happy to wait in line for a little pot of deliciously fresh gelato from this impressive parlour. If you’re in the capital on a hot summer’s day, Gelupo is a must-visit.
