Top three theme parks

Rollercoasters, ghost trains, log flumes and Peppa Pig – there’s loads of fun to be had when you visit one of these great theme parks on the GWR network.

Thorpe Park

Unlike the two parks below, Thorpe Park does a good trade in ‘scary’, including a few horror-themed rides, such as The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare (open 29 September – 31 October 2017) and Derren Brown’s Ghost train. But if it’s rollercoasters you’re after, then look no further than Saw – The Ride, which, with a 100ft vertical drop, will surely have you screaming for your mummy.

Paultons Park

Paultons is perhaps best known for being home of Peppa Pig. It’s thus the perfect place to take the family if your kids are still fairly small. Piggy-themed rides include George’s Dinosaur Adventure, Daddy Pig’s Car Ride and Peppa’s Big Balloon Ride. If you’re looking for something a little more hair-raising, then don’t fret, there’s Magma – a plunge into a fiery mountain below – and the suspended rollercoaster The Flight of the Pterosaur.

Legoland

With popular children’s toy LEGO going through a bit of a Renaissance at the moment, it will always be a safe bet to take the family to Legoland. There you can enjoy some top rides, such as the underwater Atlantis Submarine Voyage and the balloon ride Aero Nomad, as well as attractions such as the Star Wars Miniland Model Display and Gallery. LEGO and Star Wars together? Who wouldn’t love that?
